About Ms. Waits

IMG 3621.JPG
Welcome to Room 504! I will beginning my fourth year teaching First Grade at Jefferson in the fall of 2019. I grew up in Sacramento, CA, and I have been living and teaching in the San Diego area for the last 6 years, except for a 7-month stint of teaching at an I.B. school in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for my Bachelor's Degree and San Diego State University for my teaching credential, where I focused on instructing English Language Learners.

In my free time, I love to stay active with yoga, hiking, swimming, and beach frisbee. Because I consider myself a "lifelong learner," I also love to read, take online classes, and listen to podcasts that can teach me something new. Another huge passion of mine is travel--I have been taking Spanish classes and traveling to Spanish-speaking countries every summer for the last 4 years, combining my love of learning and exploration.

I believe that every student brings a unique and valuable perspective to the classroom, and I aspire to nurture that individuality to the ends of academic and social growth. One of my goals as a teacher is to provide my students with fun and collaborative experiences to get students excited about learning in a supportive classroom community. I am looking forward to another wonderful school year in First Grade!
