Karen Stencil
Hi, my name is Karen Stencil and I am very excited to be your child's 3rd grade teacher this year! 3rd grade is a magical year for our students as we are learning and growing together, inquiring, researching and sharing our knowledge in a variety of ways.
Our classroom community, fostered in part by parent involvement, is very important to me, so please feel free to contact me in person or through email to take part in this wonderful year!

A few things to know about Mrs. Stencil: I've been teaching in Carlsbad for 29 years, first as a music teacher, 6th grade teacher and now third grade for the past 6 years. There is no better place to be than with children, learning and growing. This philosophy was instilled in my heart growing up, as my parents are both retired teachers. My husband also taught 6th grade for many years, and currently teaches music. To carry on the tradition, my 21 year old twin daughters, Michelle and Melissa, just graduated from USD in May 2016, and will begin their careers in education this fall!
One of my favorite things to do is spend time with my family. We love riding bikes, golfing, camping, relaxing at the beach, planning trips together, and just hanging out! I also enjoy being physically active. I exercise every day, and have run 9 half marathons so far. I believe that movement, healthy nourishment, rest and having a growth mindset are awesome lifestyle principles to incorporate into our daily lives.
I look forward to an amazing year with your 3rd graders as we work, play, laugh and grow together!
