Outstanding Educational Program Nominees
Each year, the business community comes together to recognize the best and brightest academic programs.  This year at Jefferson Elementary our 3rd grade team of teachers and their program -
“Future Visionaries: The Eye Discovery Lab” is a finalist.  The students were able to dissect cow and sheep eyeballs from a grant that was written by our PTA grant writing committee chaired by Jefferson parent Dana Rangel.  What a great experience for our students to research, study and learn first hand the functions of our eyes.  The students exhibited many of the IB Attitudes during the process such as appreciation, cooperation, curiosity, and enthusiasm.  It was great to see the kids be such great risk-takers as they took turn dissecting the eyeballs!

Local Control Funding Formula-Executive Summary
The Governor’s new LCFF would replace the current model of funding schools with a more streamlined formula and remove most existing spending restrictions. As a result, the majority of currently required categorical activities—including purchasing instructional materials, conducting professional development, and providing supplemental instruction—instead would be left to districts’ discretion. The LCFF would begin in the 2013-14 fiscal year, and would be implemented over a seven-year period.  LCFF resources for you to look at:

Volunteer Opportunities

GARDEN:

The Green Jaguars Garden is "open" Mondays and Fridays from 11:45am - 2:30pm. Volunteers are always needed for weeding, composting, and other maintenance tasks, as well as assisting students during Garden Club (11:45am - 1:15pm). Garden Club is open to students in grades 1st - 5th during their lunch recess. Please contact Lisa Roop liroop@sbcglobal.net

Go GREEN: We would like to relaunch the GO GREEN lunch recycling again at Jefferson. Please let us know if this is something you would like to be a part of organizing with students. Last year, it was a BIG success!  Recycling efforts reduced the garbage bag usage from 16 bags to 6 the first day!  Volunteers are needed to help keep it going on a daily basis until the students 'get it'. The lunch session is from 11:30am to 1pm daily. Please email jeffersonpta@gmail.com if you are interested.
