PTA Overview

Jefferson Elementary has a very active Parent Teacher Association. Check back frequently as we'll be posting all sorts of information about what we do and ways for every parent to get involved throughout the year.

PTA UPDATES - Spring (April 2014)

Dear Jefferson Families -- We've hit the time of year where everything seems to speed up exponentially! Your children will start having major projects due in their classrooms, there will be lots of after school activities, and your family calendars will just seem to burst with events for each and every possible weekend. Don't fret! It truly is par for the course this time of year. Oddly enough, it almost seems like the more you do, the easier it is!

At Jefferson, we have just begun our TAKE ACTION cycle, which will continue through the end of the year. It isn't a coincidence that it is happening right now! =D Our students are learning through our IB curriculum, just how important it is to be active in their community. As adults, it is important to model this behavior for our children. Here at Jefferson, we have lots of ways for you to TAKE ACTION and be supportive of your children! We need volunteers to work our Multicultural Festival (Saturday, May 17th). This is an ideal opportunity for all you working parents that can't volunteer during the normal work week! Sign up for a shift or two, then get some family time at the festival. We also need items for our silent auction and gift baskets, so if you can us get donations from your office or company, that would be amazing! Ms. Tom needs help with our upcoming Book Fair (set up begins May 23rd and the fair runs thru Jun 3rd) and our Garden Club is looking for help in the Garden (Thursdays from 11:45 - 1pm).

Near and dear to my heart, we still have lots of opportunities for folks to participate on our PTA Exec Board and as a Committee Chairperson. There is something for everyone, and everyone's schedule can be accommodated. To be very blunt -- WE NEED YOU! Please, take a minute and send an email to jeffersonpta@gmail.com and let us know what area you can offer your help or services. If you know exactly what you'd like to do and the days you want to help, then by all means, include that information. If you are more flexible, then let us know that information, too. Jefferson relies on our parent volunteers to make things happen, and we are always looking for new folks to step up and help us out.

Have some new ideas you think we should be trying? Please contact me directly, and I'd love to sit and talk with you. I can be reached at (760) 822-1970 or at kris@tdoan.com. Thank you so much!

We will probably have at least one more PTA Newsletter Blast before the end of the year. But just in case.... It has been a pleasure serving as your PTA President this year. I have met so many incredible people and learned so many things about how our school works. I have a much deeper appreciation for the sheer team work it takes at all levels for things to happen around this campus!

As long as you're still interested in having me, I've agreed to stay on as PTA President for the 2014-2015 school year. I'm hoping to accomplish a few things we didn't get a chance to this year, and I'm looking forward to seeing what new ideas present themselves. In a year that has been filled with some difficult family moments, Jefferson has been a very bright, happy place for me to spend time! Thank you sharing your families with me! I look forward to having a great 2014-2015 school year! Hugs and best wishes to you all -- and I sure hope to see you at our Multicultural Festival!
