Welcome to 5th Grade!!! My name is Christy Haeberlein and I have been with Carlsbad Unified School District and here at Jefferson for 19 years.  I have grown up in Carlsbad, attending Jefferson Elementary, Kelly Elementary, Valley Middle, and Carlsbad High School.  My goals for each year is to work hard and have fun.

Current IB Unit: How the World Works- Matter

  • Central idea : Matter in the form of energy can be transferred in various ways, into, out of, and within systems.

  •  Lines of Inquiry:
  1. Matter is made of particles too small to be seen

  2. Energy from animal’s food was once energy from the sun

  3. Plants get the material they need for growth chiefly from air and water

  4. There is movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers and the environment.

IB Exhibition: Water

Throughout 5th Grade, students will be studying topics that are related to water. This will involve research, field trips, science experiments, guest speakers, and more, which will lead us to our culmination activity, IB Exhibition.   More information coming soon!
