JOG-A-THON WAS A SUCCESS!

2015 Jeff Jogathon Logo.jpg

Update: Feb 26, 2015

Thank you to all of our students and parents who have already sent their pledge money in! We've collected most of our pledges, but we still have a little ways to go. Please do what you can to get those last few pledges from Grandma, your neighbors, Uncle Larry, and those work buddies in. Every dollar counts -- and it will make a huge difference in allowing us to provide great programs to our students! Trust us -- those little pledges add up fast!

Thank you to Lynn Bachmann & Lauren Lewis for all of their efforts in setting up this year's event. They did lots of research to figure out how they could make our Jog-A-Thon more fun and more profitable for our school. They visited other schools, spoke with other PTAs, and spent countless hours strategizing what would work for Jefferson! It is always difficult to try and make changes to an established event, and they did it with enthusiasm and a willingness to push the envelope. While the final totals aren't in, we can safely say this is clearly our most profitable Jog-A-Thon ever! Well Done!

Another very special thank you to the Dynamic Duo of Monita Kelsey & April Daliot. These fine ladies are on the PTA Executive Board and are always willing to pitch in and volunteer whenever needed. In addition to their usual PTA duties, they have spent MANY days sorting, verifing, counting, and documenting all the pledges that have come in. It isn't an easy task -- especially when you want to make sure that our teachers get credit for the pledges their class generates, students get credit for the pledges they bring in, and making sure the running totals all match! They have spent hours on end counting so that our students could receive their rewards in the most timely manner possible. For going above and beyond the call of duty, and for not going insane while doing it -- we are surely most grateful for their service to our school!

And A GREAT BIG Thank You to our amazing sponsors for their generous support:

About Jefferson....

Jefferson Elementary educates each student to become a life-long learner.  Through the International Baccalaureate program, we nurture and inspire multilingual, respectful, global citizens to lead and create positive change in the 21st century.

What Makes Jefferson Special...

Our students are active participants in their education. They are encouraged to ask questions and take responsibility in their learning process. Our teachers work in a collaborative environment, enhancing the thematic topic of study with art, music, world language, technology, physical education, and real world scenarios (like our Jr. Business Expo & Fish Lab).

Jefferson Students Give Back...

An important part of being a Jefferson student is being an active participant in the community, and seeking ways to make a difference. Our children complete service projects based on local events, news headlines from around the world, or other social issues that come to their attention and inspire them to want to help. In past years, they've provided socks to people in Japan affected by the Tsunami, wrote original books and purchased school supplies & chalk boards for students in Kenya, and most recently, recycled cans and bottles to raise funds to help provide a new service dog for a young professional that had lost his canine companion after 11 years.  Our students know that they CAN create change...even though they aren't even old enough to drive or vote!

Jefferson Students Are Moving...

Studies have shown that getting exercise provides some serious mental benefits -- exercise actually boosts brain function! In an effort to harness all these benefits, Principal Lund created the MOTION program. Our goal is to help each of our students develop health minds, bodies, and spirits! Jefferson students begin their mornings with our Workout of The Day (WOD). It's 20 minutes of focused exercises.

To keep things interesting, we switch up the routines...some days it's calisthenics, and on other days, it's strength training or Jazzercise. We just keep our spirits and hearts pumping! We invite groups within our community like our local firefighters and the Marines to join our workouts to serve as examples that certain careers require a healthy lifestyle. We've also had the honor of hosting Olympic Champions like Michellie Jones, Nelson Vails, & Rudy Garcia-Tolson.

After the WOD, two classes of students rotate through a 45 minute circuit workout each day. This is in addition to their regular PE schedule. All of this additional activity has brought some noticeable changes -- our students seem more focused and ready to go once they begin their studies and we have fewer behavior issues. As always, parents and our community members are welcome to join in!

Going Green -- Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle

Jefferson Students, Teachers, Staff, and Parents are always seeking out opportunities to be ambassadors for our local community and discover ways to "Go GREEN!"  We have our own garden, recycle our trash, try to minimize our use of paper, and we try to educate ourselves & our families on ways we can be kinder to our environment.

Join us in discovering even more ways to be eco-friendly!  Together, we can make a difference!
