Due to recent events in our district and neighboring districts, the Carlsbad Unified Council (PTA) will be having a parent information event that will include guest speakers from the Carlsbad Police Department and CUSD staff to help parents understand how decisions are made regarding lockdowns both school and district wide, differences between a soft and hard lockdown, closing of schools, parent communication, laws regarding releasing information and any other questions that parents might have regarding this very emotional issue.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday January 26th at 11:30 am in the Carlsbad Unified School District Offices: 6225 El Camino Real, Carlsbad. The meeting will be held in the Resource Training Room.
This event is open to all parents! We are fortunate to be able to get both CPD and Tim Evanson to present this information.
Jefferson Elementary educates each student to become a life-long learner. Through the International Baccalaureate program, we nurture and inspire multilingual, respectful, global citizens to lead and create positive change in the 21st century.
What Makes Jefferson Special...
Our students are active participants in their education. They are encouraged to ask questions and take responsibility in their learning process. Our teachers work in a collaborative environment, enhancing the thematic topic of study with art, music, world language, technology, physical education, and real world scenarios (like our Jr. Business Expo & Fish Lab).
Jefferson Students Give Back...
An important part of being a Jefferson student is being an active participant in the community, and seeking ways to make a difference. Our children complete service projects based on local events, news headlines from around the world, or other social issues that come to their attention and inspire them to want to help. In past years, they've provided socks to people in Japan affected by the Tsunami, wrote original books and purchased school supplies & chalk boards for students in Kenya, and most recently, recycled cans and bottles to raise funds to help provide a new service dog for a young professional that had lost his canine companion after 11 years. Our students know that they CAN create change...even though they aren't even old enough to drive or vote!
Jefferson Students Are Moving...
Studies have shown that getting exercise provides some serious mental benefits -- exercise actually boosts brain function! In an effort to harness all these benefits, Principal Lund created the MOTION program. Our goal is to help each of our students develop health minds, bodies, and spirits! Jefferson students begin their mornings with our Workout of The Day (WOD). It's 20 minutes of focused exercises.
To keep things interesting, we switch up the routines...some days it's calisthenics, and on other days, it's strength training or Jazzercise. We just keep our spirits and hearts pumping! We invite groups within our community like our local firefighters and the Marines to join our workouts to serve as examples that certain careers require a healthy lifestyle. We've also had the honor of hosting Olympic Champions like Michellie Jones, Nelson Vails, & Rudy Garcia-Tolson.
After the WOD, two classes of students rotate through a 45 minute circuit workout each day. This is in addition to their regular PE schedule. All of this additional activity has brought some noticeable changes -- our students seem more focused and ready to go once they begin their studies and we have fewer behavior issues. As always, parents and our community members are welcome to join in!
See just a glimpse into our students' world by viewing the videos and photos included on the right hand column of this page. We hope you'll be inspired by these examples of the amazing things our children & teachers do each and every day. Please check back often for more updates...and feel free to let us know if you'd like to become apart of our Jefferson Community by volunteering at our school. We are always looking for ways to involve our local businesses & community members. Just send email to email@example.com to let us know of your interest.
