Jefferson's Teacher of the Year 2015

Congratulations to MS. TATUM who was named Jefferson Elementary's Teacher of the Year! We are so fortunate to have you on staff and working with our little people. Here's to all the love and support you generously give out each and every day, and for preparing our Kinder students to be great IB learners! You are a ROCK STAR!

Celebrate Carlsbad Day Legoland Tickets

Tickets are on sale before and after school for Celebrate Carlsbad which will be held on April 25th!  These special event tickets are only $25 and will allow you to enjoy all the family fun and special entertainment between 1pm - 8pm for Saturday, April 25th only!  Tickets for the Aquarium can also be purchased for $9.

A portion of the proceeds benefits Jefferson, as CEF provides our students with Legoand fieldtrips each year!  Join in the fun!  Our Jefferson Choir will be performing at this event (as will other Carlsbad school groups).

Calling all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, and willing volunteers. We need you to serve on our Board for the 2015-2016 school year. We have many open positions -- including President, Vice President, Secretary, Membership...and a lot of committees that need someone to make the position their own. Good news -- we will help you find a position that works for you!

Please help us provide our Teachers, Students, and Parents with a voice by volunteering your time. We hold Board meetings once a month, and most positions can be done at home.  Please contact Kris Doan at 760-822-1970 if you are interested in finding out more information, or you can email us at jeffersonpta@gmail.com

Great Kindness Challenge 2015

3rd Grade IB Rally -- "Thinkers"/ Jan 2015

About Jefferson....

Jefferson Elementary educates each student to become a life-long learner.  Through the International Baccalaureate program, we nurture and inspire multilingual, respectful, global citizens to lead and create positive change in the 21st century.

What Makes Jefferson Special...

Our students are active participants in their education. They are encouraged to ask questions and take responsibility in their learning process. Our teachers work in a collaborative environment, enhancing the thematic topic of study with art, music, world language, technology, physical education, and real world scenarios (like our Jr. Business Expo & Fish Lab).

Jefferson Students Give Back...

An important part of being a Jefferson student is being an active participant in the community, and seeking ways to make a difference. Our children complete service projects based on local events, news headlines from around the world, or other social issues that come to their attention and inspire them to want to help. In past years, they've provided socks to people in Japan affected by the Tsunami, wrote original books and purchased school supplies & chalk boards for students in Kenya, and most recently, recycled cans and bottles to raise funds to help provide a new service dog for a young professional that had lost his canine companion after 11 years.  Our students know that they CAN create change...even though they aren't even old enough to drive or vote!

Jefferson Students Are Moving...

Studies have shown that getting exercise provides some serious mental benefits -- exercise actually boosts brain function! In an effort to harness all these benefits, Principal Lund created the MOTION program. Our goal is to help each of our students develop health minds, bodies, and spirits! Jefferson students begin their mornings with our Workout of The Day (WOD). It's 20 minutes of focused exercises.

To keep things interesting, we switch up the routines...some days it's calisthenics, and on other days, it's strength training or Jazzercise. We just keep our spirits and hearts pumping! We invite groups within our community like our local firefighters and the Marines to join our workouts to serve as examples that certain careers require a healthy lifestyle. We've also had the honor of hosting Olympic Champions like Michellie Jones, Nelson Vails, & Rudy Garcia-Tolson.

After the WOD, two classes of students rotate through a 45 minute circuit workout each day. This is in addition to their regular PE schedule. All of this additional activity has brought some noticeable changes -- our students seem more focused and ready to go once they begin their studies and we have fewer behavior issues. As always, parents and our community members are welcome to join in!

Just Discovering Jefferson?

See just a glimpse into our students' world by viewing the videos and photos included on the right hand column of this page. We hope you'll be inspired by these examples of the amazing things our children & teachers do each and every day. Please check back often for more updates...and feel free to let us know if you'd like to become apart of our Jefferson Community by volunteering at our school. We are always looking for ways to involve our local businesses & community members. Just send email to jeffersonpta@gmail.com to let us know of your interest.

Going Green -- Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle

Jefferson Students, Teachers, Staff, and Parents are always seeking out opportunities to be ambassadors for our local community and discover ways to "Go GREEN!"  We have our own garden, recycle our trash, try to minimize our use of paper, and we try to educate ourselves & our families on ways we can be kinder to our environment.

Join us in discovering even more ways to be eco-friendly!  Together, we can make a difference!
