Going Green -- Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle

Jefferson Students, Teachers, Staff, and Parents are always seeking out opportunities to be ambassadors for our local community and discover ways to "Go GREEN!"  We have our own garden, recycle our trash, try to minimize our use of paper, and we try to educate ourselves & our families on ways we can be kinder to our environment.

Join us in discovering even more ways to be eco-friendly!  Together, we can make a difference!

School Begins WEDNESDAY, Sept 2nd!

Residency Verification Dates & Times

Proof of residency is required each year for all students attending schools in the Carlsbad Unified School District. You will be required to provide TWO documents and a complete form in order to complete this requirement.

Residency Forms will be accepted at our school office on the following dates by last name:

8/20/15: 9:00am -11:30am/ 2:00 - 3:00pm   A,B,C, & D

8/21/15: 9:00am -11:30am/ 2:00 - 3:00pm   E, F, G, & H

8/24/15: 9:00am -11:30am/ 2:00 - 3:00pm   I, J, K, & L

8/25/15: 9:00am -11:30am/ 2:00 - 3:00pm  M, N, O, & P

8/26/15: 9:00am -11:30am/ 2:00 - 3:00pm  Q, R, S, & T

8/27/15: 9:00am -11:30am/ 2:00 - 3:00pm  U, V, W, X, Y, & Z

Please use the following link to download the form explaining which documents are acceptable for proving residency. Don't forget to bring them in on the date as determined by the schedule above. https://cusd-ca.schoolloop.com/req-docs.

YOU MUST PRINT ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS AND BRING THEM WITH YOU. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS GONE DIGITAL THIS YEAR, SO THE OFFICE WILL NOT HAVE ANY BLANK DOCUMENTS FOR YOU TO FILL IN IF YOU FORGET THEM. If you do not have the ability to print out a document, you can go to the local library and they can assist you with printing forms for a small fee.

Carlsbad Unified's Aeries Parent Portal is also available to do paperwork for the annual residency verification.  Residency forms are available to complete but will need to be downloaded and brought to the office on the assigned date with documentation (two items).   The Aeries Parent Portal is also useful to complete new emergency cards and update contact information.  For a quick link, use the button located in the left column on this homepage!

We have a new online registration process we are asking all parents to complete. This new process is called “Student Data Confirmation”, and replaces the old hard copy system we used in the past. You can complete the process at your convenience, but it must be completed before your school registration event. When you are ready to begin, just log into your Aeries Parent Portal account.

IMPORTANT! Don’t forget to print out the emergency card, that you get after you confirm your data in the Aeries Parent Portal. This emergency card is a required document that you will have to turn in at your school registration event. This is the first year that our district has gone to a digital format, so you will need to print out all required forms and bring them with you to registration. The office will not have any blank forms on hand if you forget, so PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR COMPLETED FORMS WITH YOU!

Secondly, you will have to attend one of the school registration events at your school to turn in required documents (including your emergency card) and show proof of your residency in the district. Each school has a different schedule for when you can do this. Refer to the schedule for Jefferson listed on our webpage...entitled "Residency Verification Dates and Times".

“I’m not sure I have an Aeries Parent Portal Account…”

No problem!

It’s likely that we sent you an email a few minutes ago with information about logging in to your new Aeries Parent Portal account, but if you can’t find the message (did you check your SPAM folder?) you can always contact your school after August 20 to get setup.

“What if I also have a new student entering the district?”

You will need to enroll your new student in the district. You can do this online through Aeries Online Enrollment.

“I still have some questions about all this...”

Totally understandable.

That’s why we put together a helpful webpage that reviews everything in detail.  The link for all the information and documentation you need can be found at https://cusd-ca.schoolloop.com/req-docs.  If you still have questions, you can call: Ruth Cartagena at (760) 331-5074 or Trudy Thompson at (760) 331-5011.

Class Assignment Night is Sept. 1st! You will be able to join the PTA, buy spirit wear, sign up for after school activities, and find out who will be teaching your child this year! It is an important evening that truly sets your family up for a successful school year!

Back-to-School Night will be held on Sept. 8th from 5:30 - 7pm. More detailed information will be posted soon.

Volunteer Orientation will be on Sept. 9th at 8:30am in our school auditorium.

About Jefferson....

Jefferson Elementary educates each student to become a life-long learner.  Through the International Baccalaureate program, we nurture and inspire multilingual, respectful, global citizens to lead and create positive change in the 21st century.

What Makes Jefferson Special...

Our students are active participants in their education. They are encouraged to ask questions and take responsibility in their learning process. Our teachers work in a collaborative environment, enhancing the thematic topic of study with art, music, world language, technology, physical education, and real world scenarios (like our Jr. Business Expo & Fish Lab).

Jefferson Students Give Back...

An important part of being a Jefferson student is being an active participant in the community, and seeking ways to make a difference. Our children complete service projects based on local events, news headlines from around the world, or other social issues that come to their attention and inspire them to want to help. In past years, they've provided socks to people in Japan affected by the Tsunami, wrote original books and purchased school supplies & chalk boards for students in Kenya, and most recently, recycled cans and bottles to raise funds to help provide a new service dog for a young professional that had lost his canine companion after 11 years.  Our students know that they CAN create change...even though they aren't even old enough to drive or vote!

Jefferson Students Are Moving...

Studies have shown that getting exercise provides some serious mental benefits -- exercise actually boosts brain function! In an effort to harness all these benefits, Principal Lund created the MOTION program. Our goal is to help each of our students develop health minds, bodies, and spirits! Jefferson students begin their mornings with our Workout of The Day (WOD). It's 20 minutes of focused exercises.

To keep things interesting, we switch up the routines...some days it's calisthenics, and on other days, it's strength training or Jazzercise. We just keep our spirits and hearts pumping! We invite groups within our community like our local firefighters and the Marines to join our workouts to serve as examples that certain careers require a healthy lifestyle. We've also had the honor of hosting Olympic Champions like Michellie Jones, Nelson Vails, & Rudy Garcia-Tolson.

After the WOD, two classes of students rotate through a 45 minute circuit workout each day. This is in addition to their regular PE schedule. All of this additional activity has brought some noticeable changes -- our students seem more focused and ready to go once they begin their studies and we have fewer behavior issues. As always, parents and our community members are welcome to join in!

Just Discovering Jefferson?

See just a glimpse into our students' world by viewing the videos and photos included in the columns of this page. We hope you'll be inspired by these examples of the amazing things our children & teachers do each and every day. Please check back often for more updates...and feel free to let us know if you'd like to become apart of our Jefferson Community by volunteering at our school. We are always looking for ways to involve our local businesses & community members. Just send email to jeffersonpta@gmail.com to let us know of your interest.
